Lukaku spoke about this in an interview he had with Sky Sports on Friday, August 20th, 2021. He gave a lot of praises to the Italian manager, how he helped him overcome self-doubt and he now sees himself as a leader.

Chelsea will hope the forward man can bring a lot of experience into the club, following his experiences at Manchester United, Inter Milan.

It was just questions, self doubt. I knew i had the abilities, but why not. It was always just not, just not. When i think about my moments with Everton, missed penalties or whatever or United games or whatever and also when i was here that I would get an opportunity and it would not go well, always just not, just not. I would think maybe it's because I put too much into it.

When I went to Italy, this is under the guidance of Antonio Conte, where I learnt what it took to really go and break that barrier and when we did won last year, you could see the emotions in my face. For me, it was like 10 years of hard work, but with a lot of ups and downs, I think in the end it was good but now coming into my prime years, i know myself; i know what it takes. I know how to be a leader and help to help the team.

Lukaku was key for Inter Milan last season, as his goals ensured the Italian team won their first Serie A title for the first time in 10 years.

He finished the 2020/21 season with 24 league goals, 11 assists. Making him the highest scorer on the title-winning team and the second-highest scorer in the league behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
