Mohamed Salah Wins Football Writers’ Association Footballers of the Year

The midfielder of Liverpool Football Club, Mohamed Salah has been named the player of the year by the Footballers Writers Association.

The announcement was made on the official website of the football writers on Friday, April 29th, 2022. According to reports, Salah emerged winner of the award, by receiving 48% of the total votes, West Ham United's Declan Rice came in third place and Manchester City's midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne came in second place.

This is the second time the Egyptian will win the award, the last time he won the award was in 2018. Liverpool and Manchester City dominated. Salah and eight other of his team-mates won votes while six Manchester City players were recognised, including De Bruyne. In total, 31 players from 12 different clubs won votes.

Chelsea Women's Football team striker, Sam Kerr, emerged winners for the Women’s Footballer of the Year award and took 40 per cent of the vote with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema in second place and Lauren Hemp of Manchester City in third.
