Erik Ten Hag speaks on stripping the captain's armband off Harry Maguire
The manager of Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag has broken silence on his decision to strip Harry Maguire off the captain's armband.
The Dutchman in an interview when he was asked about his reason for giving the armband to Bruno Fernandes. He said the decision had nothing personal to do with Harry Maguire but was taken in the interest of the club.
"It is nothing against Harry, it was in advantage of the team. Then you make the decision. But I will not say that Harry isn’t part of this group. He has to fight for his position. He is a very good centre-back."
The Red Devils released a statement on its official website confirming that the Englishman will not lead the players from the dugout going forward. Maguire expressed his displeasure as it concerns the decision of Erik Ten Hag but has promised to give his best to the team whenever he gets the privilege to wear the jersey in a football game.
Maguire has not gotten enough game time since Ten Hag became manager of the Red Devils. Bruno Fernandes has always worn the captain's armband whenever the defender was not on the pitch.
