The English forward has not gotten himself a lot of playing time at Stamford Bridge since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager of Chelsea from Frank Lampard in January 2021. Abraham was key in Chelsea's qualification to the Champions League in the 2020/21 season, but he has been down the pecking order since Timo Werner arrived at the club last season.

Abraham accepted the transfer to Roma on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021 when Chelsea announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

Seasoned reporter Fabrizio Romano confirmed this transfer news on his Twitter account, on Sunday, August 15th, 2021.

He also mentioned that Chelsea can bring back Abraham to the Bridge as a Buy-Back Clause was included in the deal but can only be activated from June 2023.

Paperworks signed during the night for Tammy Abraham to AS Roma. No loan, permanent deal. Chelsea have back clause valid from June 2023 for 80 million Euros, confirmed.

Tammy Abraham scored 30 goals in 82 games for Chelsea. He was part of the team that won the UEFA Champions League in May 2021. The forward also won the UEFA Super League played on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, against Villareal.
