Nigerian superstars, Burna Boy and Wizkid will have to wait a bit longer for a Grammy as the Recording Academy award popularly called “The Grammys” has been postponed.

The delay is reportedly linked to concerns over Covid-19. As at the time of this report, sources on the 5th of January 2021, say the show wouldn't take place on the 31st of January 2021 as scheduled but rather there are reports the event will be moved to a later date in March 2021.

There are unconfirmed statements that concerns have been raised regarding ensuring the safety of attendees for the grand event. Concerns arising from health and travel issues are primary reasons for the postponement. The Grammys have been contending for months on the decision to stage the event in different areas of the of Los Angeles.

Interim Grammy Chief, Harvey Mason spoke to the Variety in late November 2020. He said;

“the show would be held in and around Downtown Los Angeles”.

Also, new Grammy Executive Producer, Ben Winston spoke to Billboard in December 2020 about the possibility of staging the show in independent venues. He said;

“I’m so struck by the independent music venues around the world, and I’m aware of how hard hit that side of the industry has been. I’m looking to do something quite exciting with the independent venues supporting them and putting a spotlight on them in what has been a really tough year for them.”

As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Recording Academy. Also, there has been no reaction from Burna Boy and Wizkid.

Nigerian acts, Burna Boy and Wizkid are both nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ and ‘Best Video’ of the year categories respectively.
