In a monumental stride towards enhancing Nigeria's entertainment landscape, a consortium spearheaded by the Persianas Group and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has commenced a groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art arena with a proposed capacity of 12,000 in Victoria Island, Lagos.

This initiative signifies a significant achievement, not just for Nigeria's cultural richness but also for its economic potential. Nigeria experiences an influx of foreign visitors, particularly during the festive season, often referred to as "Detty December", when every major city in the country pulsates with festivities. The establishment of this state-of-the-art arena holds great promise for Nigeria's tourism industry and overall economic growth.

As a nation, there's a growing need for larger venues to accommodate renowned artists like Cardi B, Future, Roddy Rich, who have already performed in Nigeria. Burna Boy, for instance, successfully sold out the 19,800-capacity Scotiabank Arena. If he were to replicate this success at venues like the Eko Convention enter or Landmark, there would be a challenge in accommodating the overflow of enthusiastic crowds.

Just as Afrobeat artists are packing venues worldwide such as the O2 Arena, Accor Arena, and Scotiabank Arena, the new entertainment arena in Nigeria holds the potential for similar success. This arena can host and elevate performances by international artists within Africa, positioning Nigeria as a central hub for such events.

1. Eko Convention Center, Lagos

The Eko Convention Centre stands as the pinnacle of opulence and adaptability in Nigeria's event spaces. Covering an area of 5,151 square meters, it claims the title of the largest multipurpose conference center in the country. Reportedly, the rental cost for the Eko Convention Centre is allegedly $9 million.

With the capacity to host events of varying sizes, it accommodates 270 exhibition booths and up to 5,600 individuals for concerts. The hall is furnished with integrated sound systems, professional lighting, and a roll-away stage with carpeting to enhance acoustic effects. Enhancing its allure is the recently constructed "Grand Ballroom", a sophisticated venue catering to 350 guests for a delightful dining experience. Events such as the Lagos Fashion Fair and Night with the Generals.

2. Landmark Event Center, Lagos

Situated in the lively core of Lagos, The Landmark Centre is an exclusive venue positioned within the
captivating surroundings of Landmark Village. This event center provides top-tier amenities, including a spacious and well-air-conditioned multipurpose hall accommodating up to 5000 guests. The venue also
has ample parking space, backup generators, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a proficient staff team. Enhancing its appeal is the scenic beachfront setting that provides an extensive view of the Atlantic Ocean, forming a stunning backdrop for various events. Concerts such as Beer with Us have been held at the Landmark Center.

3. Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos

Tafawa Balewa Square, located on Lagos Island, Lagos, spans 14.5 hectares and was initially designated as a race course. Recognized as the historic hub of cricket in Nigeria, it has a seating capacity of 55,000 individuals. Originally intended as the venue for the Afronation concert, the event unfortunately had to be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. The ceremonial ground has hosted events like the Lagos Motor Show, and The Experience (according to Wikipedia the first show had an attendance of 70,000 people).

4. National Stadium, Lagos

The National Stadium in Lagos is located in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria. It boasts a seating capacity of approximately 25,000. This multipurpose stadium serves as a venue for various events, with its primary use being for football (soccer) matches, athletics, and other sporting activities. Additionally, the National Stadium in Lagos has been a host for cultural and entertainment events. Officially inaugurated in 1972 to accommodate the 2nd All-Africa Games, the National Stadium in Lagos has since played a crucial role as a significant venue for sports and entertainment in Nigeria.

5. Babcock University Stadium, Ogun

Nestled in Ilishan Remo, Babcock University is famed for organizing fresher's fairs featuring renowned Afrobeat artists and Feast of Light concerts for its students. The stadium at the university is well-suited for hosting medium-scale concerts or events. With a large student population, Babcock University welcomed acclaimed gospel singer Mercy Chinwo in 2022, courtesy of the Student Affairs department. In 2024, the university is set to launch its inaugural gospel experience, akin to the successful event (The Experience) held in Lagos.

6. Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium), Lagos

The Mobolaji Johnson Arena is a multi-purpose stadium in Lagos. According to the Nigerian Football Fund (TNFF), the stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people and is the oldest in Nigeria. Located on the southeastern corner of Lagos Island near Tafewa Balewa Square, the original stadium was built in 1930.  

7. Muson Center, Lagos
