The Super Falcons of Nigeria booked their spot in the second round of the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup which is being hosted in Australia and New Zealand.

The nine-time Africa Champions achieved this feat in their final group game against the Republic of Ireland which was played on Monday, July 31, 2023. Nigeria needed just a point going into the game following their impressive victory over Australia in their second game.

The Super Falcons came closest to a winner, hitting the bar after Brosnan pulled off a remarkable save from a Kanu header. However, Toni Payne gave a top-notch performance in the game but her efforts could not give Nigeria maximum points.

Australia finished top of the group following their victory in Melbourne against Canada while Nigeria finished in second place.
