Sir Alex Ferguson's wife passes away at 75

The red half of Manchester was thrown into sadness when the death of Lady Carthy Ferguson, wife of Sir Alex Ferguson was confirmed in a statement released by the family.

The family released a statement to the Press Association news agency on Friday, October 6, 2023. The family did not state the cause of the death as they prefer that their privacy be respected during this period of mourning.

The statement read thus,

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson, who leaves behind her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family requests that we respect their privacy during this period."

Manchester United have also sent their condolences to the family in a statement which was released on the club's website.

"Everyone at Manchester United extends their sincere condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family following the death of Lady Cathy. Lady Cathy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a pillar to Sir Alex throughout his career."

Lady Carthy and Sir Alex Ferguson met in 1964 when he was just 23-year-old and they married two years later in 1966. She passed away at the age of 75.
