Paris Saint-Germain defender, Sergio Ramos has announced his retirement from the Spanish national team.

The former Real Madrid defender confirmed his decision on his official Twitter account on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. According to him, his decision to leave the national team was triggered by the conversation he had with the head coach of the Spanish national team, De la Fuente.

He said,

I received call from current coach who informed me that I'm not & won’t be part of his plans. I believe that this journey deserved to end at my own choosing, not due to a question of age. I admire and envy players like Modrić, Messi, and Pepe, the essence of tradition, values, meritocracy & justice in football. Unfortunately, it won’t be like that for me.

He was part of the Spanish team that won the European Championship in 2008, 2012, and the World Cup in 2010.
