Premier League Clubs Scramble to Beat the Transfer Deadline

With just 9 days left until the close of the January 2022 transfer window, top Premier League clubs are pushing to complete signings before the transfer deadline.

Premier League clubs are rushing to increase their squad strength and depth for the second half of the football season. With the transfer window closing on January 31st 2022, there is just a limited time for better negotiations and signings. 

For some Premier League clubs, however, the focus revolves around getting current players who have a short period left on their contracts to extend their time and stay at the club. 

Although a few clubs have finalised their prospective permanent and loan deals, other clubs are still looking to get the players the club requires.

Finalized Deals So Far

Newcastle United, who happened to be one of the first clubs to hit the transfer market, completed the moves for Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier to beef up their squad in order to fight relegation. Aston Villa, has been arguably the busiest club in the Premier League since the opening of the January 2022 transfer market.

From pushing out Anwar El Ghazi on loan to recruiting the services of Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho to join the ranks, Steven Gerrard seems to be focused on building a compact team. Tottenham Hotspur has also extended the contract of their current first-choice goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, until 2024.

Arsenal finalized contracts for Kolasinac on a free transfer and Pablo Mari, who is on loan to other clubs.

Reported Deals

Chelsea appears to be desperate for both right and left-backs, as both Reece James and Ben Chilwell are currently out injured. Chelsea, in a bid to improve the squad, had their bid rejected to recall Emerson Palmieri. Emerson had been loaned out to Olympique Lyonnais. They are still searching for players to fill the void left by the injured players.

Manchester City is interested in signing young star Julian Alvarez, while Tottenham is interested in signing Wolves star player Adama Traore. Aston Villa seems to be far from being done in the transfer window as they look to sign Rodrigo Bentancur.

Personal Take

The second half of the premier league just keeps getting more interesting with the new dynamics of each team. We understand that these clubs are going through tough times due to an increase in COVID-19 cases as well as injuries as a result of a packed schedule. The quality a team possesses is what separates champions from competitors, but we can only wait till May 2022 to know if these signings will pay off.
