N'Golo Kante becomes the owner of a football club

Former Chelsea player, N'Golo Kante has completed the purchase of Royal Excelsior Virton football club in Belgium.

The Belgian club confirmed the news on its official website on Thursday, June 29, 2023. According to the statement released on the club's website, the transfer of ownership will pass from the hands of Flavio Becca to those of N'Golo Kanté which be effective on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

"The Royal Excelsior Virton football club officially passes from the hands of Flavio Becca to those of N'Golo Kanté. The transfer of power will be effective on July 1."

Kante has taken his game higher from footballer to club owner. The French man will be bringing not just his wealth but also his experience as a footballer most especially in the Premier League where he played for Leicester City and Chelsea.

He won two Premier League titles, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World. The midfielder currently plays his football in Saudi Arabia with Al- Ittihad.

History of the Club

The former owner, Flavio Becca bought Excelsior Virton in 2019 with the sole aim of ensuring that the club does not go down the drain. He was able to keep the club afloat by sport and financially and then promoted it to Division 1B (professional football), for the first time in its history. The club will participate in Belgian National Division 1 when the 2023/24 season kicks off following its relegation from Challenger Pro League in 2022/23.
