Mason Mount explains why he did not renew his contract at Chelsea

Mason Mount has been under criticism by some supporters of Chelsea Football Club following his decision to join Manchester United.

The Englishman said that his decision to leave Stamford Bridge was because it was clear that he was not in the plans of the club. Mason Mount made this revelation was made in an interview with Manchester United television.

"Several months ago it became clear that I wasn't in Chelsea's plans moving forward and once I knew Manchester United were involved, my decision was made. It's a huge club but it's also so close, everyone is involved, and it's such a family and I've felt that straight away."

Mount was given the number 7 jersey which was last worn by the club's legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 24-year-old is on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year.

He has made 279 club appearances, scoring 58 goals and contributing 53 assists. He is the first player to wear the jersey number since Ronaldo left the club in his second spell.
