Manchester City Confirm Departure of its Midfielder as Free Agent

Manchester City Football Club have confirmed that its captain, Ilkay Gundogan will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires in June 2023.

The Cityzens confirmed the news on its list of players which was submitted to the Premier League, the list contains players that will be retained and released by the club. Arsenal and Barcelona have been linked with the possibility of signing the German as a free agent.

The 32-year-old was in fantastic form for City this season, he scored 11 goals and seven assists in 51 games, and two of his goals came in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester United. He went on to lift three trophies this season ( Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League).

City's left-back Benjamin Mendy, is also on the list of players that will leave the club. The French International joined Monaco for £52 million in 2017.

He was suspended by the club in August 2021 after he was charged with rape. The 28-year-old was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault following a six-month trial at Chester Crown Court in January 2023.
