Karim Benzema Wins UEFA Player of the Year 2022 Award

Real Madrid forward player, Karim Benzema has been named the best player of the year for the 2021/22 season.

The French man beat Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and his Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois. They announced the award during the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League draw in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Italian forward player won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and won the UEFA Super Cup with the Galacticos. He was also Real Madrid's highest goal scorer in the 2021/22 season.

Benzema was voted winner of the award by a jury comprised the 32 coaches of the clubs that took part both in the UEFA Champions League, along with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media group, one from each of UEFA's member associations.

Jury members chose their top three players, with the first receiving five points, the second three points, and the third one point. Coaches could not vote for players from their own team.
