Injury rules out Manchester City prominent figure for four weeks
Manchester City have been hit with another injury worry just days after Kevin De Bruyne was ruled out for four months.
The Cityzens confirmed on their official website on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, that the club's first-team coach, Pep Guardiola, had to undergo back surgery.
The Manchester City boss has been suffering from severe back pain for some time lately and flew out to Barcelona for emergency surgery performed by Dr Mireia Illueca. The surgery was a success, and Guardiola will now recover and rehabilitate in Barcelona while he stays with his family.
The club's assistant manager, Juanma Lillo, will oversee the coaching of the first team on the training field and assume duties on the touchline until Pep’s return.
Guardiola is expected to return after the first international break of the 2023/24 international break. This means he will miss the trip to Sheffield United as well as the visit to Fulham on Sunday, August 27 and Saturday, September 2, 2023, respectively.
