Brighton Football Club are reportedly set to bring in Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey before the end of the 2023 summer transfer window.

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Brighton has opened contract talks with Calvin Bassey who currently plays his football for Eredivisie side, Ajax Football Club. Brighton's manager, Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan of the centre back and he will love to build a strong team as they will be playing in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.

The Seagulls need a defender who will serve as a replacement for Chelsea's Levi Colwill who was on loan with them during the 2022/23 season. Brighton have approached the Blues for a possible transfer of the English defender but their proposal was rejected.

Colwill has reportedly told Chelsea that he will not sign a new contract until he meets with Mauricio Pochettino. The youngster wants to be assured of first-team football before he can commit to his future at the club.
