Benjamin Mendy faces another problem in Lorient

Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy might have been cleared of rape allegations but the shadow of the incident might not be leaving anytime soon.

The defender was not welcomed by some supporters of his new club, Lorient as they referred to him as a rapist. The section of the fans before Loreint's home game at three Ligue 1 players who have been accused of sexual crimes, namely new Lorient signing Benjamin Mendy, Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi and AS Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder.

A sports agency in France Le Télégramme confirmed that the banners were displayed on Lorient’s Grand Théâtre steps near Les Merlus‘ Stade du Moustoir which was translated as “What is the justice system doing? B. Mendy, A. Hakimi, W. Ben Yedder. No forgetting. No forgiveness“.

Mendy was cleared of all charges of sexual crimes last month by the Chester Crown Court. He completed his move to the Ligue 1 a few days after the verdict by signing a two-year contract with FC Lorient.

Meanwhile, Hakimi has been accused of rape by a 24-year-old woman last February. The Moroccan international was charged several days later with an investigation underway. Ben Yedder, has also been charged with rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.
