The news was announced by the organizers of the Grand slam on Sunday, January 8th, 2023. They did not give any reason for her decision to withdraw from the competition.

Osaka returned to the US following a trip around Europe with boyfriend and rapper Cordae over the festive period. The tennis star had also been promoting her new book 'The Way Champs Play'. In it she shares the key steps to becoming a true champion, including being kind, working as a team, doing your best, and most importantly, having fun.

World Number 1, Carlos Alcaraz also announced his withdrawal from the competition following an injury to his abdominal muscle. Venus Williams also withdrew from the Australian Open due to an injury sustained at the ASB Classic in New Zealand.

The competition will start from Monday, January 16th to January 30th, 2023.
