#RolandGarros: Naomi Osaka Suffers Upset at the French Open
Former World Number 1 female tennis player, Naomi Osaka got knocked out of the first round of the Roland Garros.
This is the second year running that Osaka will not be having a good time at the French Open, the Japanese withdrew from the grand slam because of her mental health. Osaka got dumped out this year following her defeat to 27th seed Amanda Anisimova.
Osaka also confirms that she might not be participating in this year’s Wimbledon Grand Slam following the sport’s authorities stripped Wimbledon of its ranking points over the tournament’s decision to exclude players from Russia and Belarus over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
I would say like the decision is kind of affecting, like, my mentality going into the grass like I’m not 100 per cent sure if I’m going to go there,” she told a news conference after her loss. I would love to go just to get some experience on the grass court, but like at the same time, for me, it’s kind of like – I don’t want to say pointless, no pun intended, but I’m the type of player that gets motivated by seeing my ranking go up. I think the intention was really good, but the execution is kind of all over the place.
The 20-year-old dumped out Osaka from the third round of the Australian Open this year. Anisimova faces world No 100 Donna Vekic in the second round.
