The Arsenal striker was reported to have attended a party in Dubai with some of his teammates, which include Southampton's midfielder, Mario Lemina, ahead of the tournament.

The Gabonese will hope the absence of their experienced striker does not cost them victory in the opening game and hope he returns a negative test before the next group game against Ghana on Friday, January 14th, 2022.

Aubameyang left for AFCON, not certain about his future at the Emirates. The 32-year-old fell out with the Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, which led to him losing his captain's armband. He is reportedly linked to Barcelona and Newcastle United during this transfer window, but his weekly wage of 350,000 pounds is going to be a challenge for any club that wants to sign him.
