3 Reasons why Chelsea will not sack Mauricio Pochettino

SHARE

Mauricio Pochettino is the most criticised manager in the Premier League following his inability to turn things around at Chelsea Football Club despite the money that has been invested by the owners in the past two years.

Most of the club's supporters have called for the termination of the Argentine's contract more than once this season but the former Spurs manager still leads the club from the dugout every match day. There are rumors that he might be sacked by the Chelsea hierarchy at the end of this current season (2024/25) but it looks more likely that he will run out of his contract which expires at the end of next season (2025/26).

This is not something that will go well with the supporters of the London club especially those match-going fans as they might have to go through the horror and poor performance of the team next season.

However, we have decided to highlight three major reasons why Pochettino will not leave Chelsea this season.

(1) Financial Fair Play (FFP) Rule:

Chelsea Football Club have been under the eyes of the Premier League in the past transfer windows following the way business is being done at the club. The new owners have done themselves no good with the huge purchase of players which has cost them almost a billion pounds and the lack of getting UEFA Champions League football for two consecutive seasons will mean they have to be careful with spending money.

If the Chelsea board decides to sack Pochettino mid-way into his contract, this means that will have to pay him off and this will affect their financial books so the best thing that can be done is to allow him to see out his contract.

(2) The Board:

The board of directors at Chelsea have always thrown their weight behind Pochettino since the start of this season and the Argentine has not hidden the support he gets from the club whenever he gets the opportunity. The Blues chairman, Todd Boehly has also told everyone who cares to listen that this project that is currently being built at the club needs time before the result can be seen.

This revelation can only mean that they have no intention of terminating Poch's contract at the end of this season.

(3) European Competition:

The easiest way for Pochettino to retain his job at Chelsea beyond this season is by ensuring the team qualifies for Europe next season. Chelsea supporters are used to playing in Europe and If Poch gets that a spot in any of the UEFA competitions, he would have bought himself one more season to remain at Stamford Bridge.

He has two ways to get Chelsea a spot in Europe, he either wins the FA Cup or finishes in a position that will guarantee the Blues European football next season.
