Grammy Award winner Tyla opened up about how she collaborated with Jamaican dancehall artist Skillibeng on her hit track Jump.

Tyla released her debut album TYLA and it has been the talk of the town. Her latest tracks Truth or DareButterfliesOn & On, and Water remix featuring Travis Scott are some of the singles on the album.

The tracklist contains 14 songs and features from Becky GTems, and American rapper Gunna. On the track Jump which featured Skillibeng, Tyla said she wanted a rapper on it.

During her BBC Radio 1 Xtra interview with Nadia Jae, she discussed the need to infuse "Jump" with a fresh vibe. Consequently, her team reached out to Jamaican rapper Skillibeng, leading to a collaborative effort. The track has gained over one million streams on Spotify.

She said, “Jump originally was just myself. It was literally just me and then I just felt like it needed a rapper. I wanted someone to gruff it up. Gunna and I have also been speaking about collaborations. Then I went to Jamaica. Jamaica is so beautiful. It was my first time there and I was making more music. I listened to Jump and I was like ‘Eyyy I like these vibes. We need a Jamaican vibe on this one’. We hit up Skillibeng. He came up with something that I had to add”.

Tyla has made history by securing a UK platinum plaque for her viral hit single Water, which has taken the global music scene by storm since its release in July 2023. Her album ranked at No.1 on Billboard World Album charts. This makes her the first South African to achieve this feat.
