Over 500,000 fans take a stand following Mohbad's death

Naira Marley could lose everything he has built as fans continue to express their outrage over Mohbad's death.

The Nigerian music scene has been rocked by controversy as the number of followers on Naira Marley's social media accounts has dropped precipitously. The drop on his Instagram is seen as a coordinated response from aggrieved citizens in the aftermath of Mohbad's tragic death.

Naira Marley had lost over 500,000 Instagram followers at the time of publication. Marley had approximately 7.5 million devoted Instagram followers on September 12, 2023; however, the numbers began to decline after more reports surfaced alleging that he contributed to the late singer's death. They eventually fell to 7.4 million as of September 15, 2023. As of now, he has 6.9 million followers on the platform.

Mohbad, a promising artist, met an untimely demise under circumstances that have sent shockwaves throughout the music industry. The deceased reportedly suffered harassment and maltreatment, allegedly at the hands of Naira Marley and his associates, including Sammy Larry. Although there is no direct evidence linking Naira Marley to Mohbad's death, viral video clips circulating on social media have fueled public outrage and demands for an investigation.

The police have officially launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death, with the deceased's family members and witnesses meeting with the Lagos state commissioner of police to commence the investigation.

In a show of solidarity, devoted fans of the late artist have organised a peaceful procession in his honour, scheduled for Wednesday, September 20th, and Thursday, September 21st. The procession is a poignant tribute to Mohbad and a call for justice in his name.
