Odumodublvck unveils the message behind his mixtape 'Eziokwu'
Nigerian hip-hop rapper Odumodublvck opens up about the thoughts, beliefs, and spirituality behind his mixtape Eziokwu.
Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck in an interview with Nandi Madida on Apple Music Africa Now Radio opened up about the behind-the-scenes of making his songs. The rapper released an enchanting melody Blood on the Dance Floor featuring American rapper Wale and Nigerian singer Bloody Civilian. The captivating tune is currently number 1 on Apple Music's Top 100 Nigeria.
In the interview, Odumodublvck talks about how he believes that music is God's gift to man. The Declan Rice singer stated, "It's not about who has the best sound. Music is from God and God blesses man to see how we can go into the world and multiply this talent. I believe everything is divine". Big Kala, as he is also known as, expressed how his music reflects the current crisis of young musicians losing their lives. In 2023, we have lost Costa Titch, AKA, and Mohbad.
The award winner used 'Eziokwu' to convey his identity and culture by creating a unique blend of Hip-hop and grime. Odumodu blends a unique street lingo with his music to highlight Nigerian culture globally. The multi-awarding winning artist expressed, "I was just trying to communicate myself and my environment, you know? That’s the easiest way to do it as an artist. When I was recording it I wanted people to know from the get-go that first of all, this guy is an African, and this guy is a Nigerian".
Odumodublvck confirmed that the mixtape Eziokwu means truth. When asked about the direction of Native Records and Def Jam, the Dog Eat Dog visionary stated, "We taking it global. From Nigeria to Africa to the whole world. We are moving in one direction with one purpose. The music is gospel to us and we have to take it to the end of the world".
