Justin Bieber reportedly sold music catalog amid financial struggles

Fresh reports have emerged suggesting Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was facing severe financial challenges before selling the rights to his music catalog for $200 million in late 2022.
According to TMZ, the multi-platinum artist, who once amassed between $500 million and $1 billion during the peak of his career, allegedly squandered much of his fortune, leading to financial instability. Insiders claim Justin Bieber was on the verge of "financial collapse" in 2022, prompting the urgent sale of his music catalog to Blackstone-backed Hipgnosis Songs Capital.
Sources also revealed that Bieber’s long-time manager, Scooter Braun, advised him against selling the catalog so early in his career, suggesting he wait until January 2023 to benefit from a potential tax break. However, Justin Bieber reportedly declined the advice and finalized the deal in December 2022.
The 30-year-old remains the youngest artist to ever sell their entire catalog, a move insiders suggest was largely driven by financial necessity rather than strategic business planning.
Meanwhile, Hailey Bieber, Justin’s wife, is reportedly exploring a $1 billion sale for her skincare brand, Rhode. Since its launch in June 2022, the brand has reportedly achieved $200 million in sales, though sources note that the deal might face challenges given the brand’s current online-only distribution model.
Neither Justin Bieber nor his representatives have publicly addressed the swirling reports. The developments have reignited conversations about financial management in the music industry and the growing trend of artists selling their music catalogs for massive payouts.
TMZ has since released a documentary titled “TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber”, delving deeper into the singer’s reported financial troubles and career decisions.
