Asake breaks Omah Lay's 2-year Spotify record with Travis Scott collab 'Active'

The Afrobeats superstar has started building the perfect and much needed momentum for his sophomore album, 'Lungu Boy.'

Nigerian ace singer and performer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has beaten his colleague Omah Lay's record on music streaming app Spotify with his latest single, 'Active.'

The YBNL-Empire artiste who recently announced his third studio album 'Lungu Boy', which is expected to feature heavyweights like Wizkid, Stormzy, and others, decided to surprise his fans with a last-minute-before-the-album release. The unexpected release was his song with American superstar Travis Scott titled 'Active,' which dropped on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, alongside its official video.

In an interesting show of dominance, Asake's 'Active' produced by Nigerian heavyweight producer and DJ, Sarz, went on to dethrone colleague Omah Lay by becoming the biggest debut for an Afrobeats song in Spotify history after it racked up 1.56 million streams on the first day and was #108 on the global Spotify chart. Omah Lay & Justin Bieber's 'Attention' formerly held the record after the song racked up 1.53 million on its first day when it was released in 2022. The two-year reign was finally halted yesterday, August 7, 2024.
