5 Nigerian artists with endorsement deals with betting companies

SHARE

In most African countries, Nigeria is no exception, online gambling and betting are becoming increasingly popular recently.

In South Africa, betting has even become more popular than the lottery! So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that competing betting brands are reaching out to some of the most popular influencers and artists.

Don’t be surprised if you see one of your favourite rappers or singers promote the latest no deposit bonus offer from an online casino. Know that betting brands, just like any other brand, like to do endorsements with famous faces and celebrities like the ones below:

5 Popular Nigerian musicians and their betting brand partnerships

1. Pasuma (9japredict)

Pasuma is one of the most successful Fuji artists in Nigeria, with dozens of studio albums and several awards under his belt. And he, too, endorsed a betting outlet, the now-defunct 9japredict, back in 2014.

2. Phyno (Nairabet)

Chibuzo Nelson Azubuike (Phyno) is one of the few musicians rapping in Igbo. He became the brand ambassador of Nairabet back in 2015, together with Skuki, and football pundit Segun Agbede.

3. Davido (AccessBET)

Born in the US, and raised in Lagos, Davido Adedeji Adeleke is one of the best-known Afro-pop and Afrobeat acts today, both as a singer and as a producer. And he has, in 2020, become the face of AccessBET in Nigeria.

“Davido’s vibrant persona and worldwide appeal is something we love and this represents another positive step in the right direction for the brand,” AccessBET General Manager Mr Kayode Akinbo said at the time.

4. Tekno (Bitcasino)

Tekno, born Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, is a singer and rapper known for hits like Pana, Don’t Jealous Me, or Skeletun.

Last year, Tekno endorsed the crypto gambling outlet Bitcasino, promoting its VIP program, revealing that he, too, is an avid casino player and even promoting a playlist that always puts him in a “winning mood”, that includes hits like Mufasa and Pana.

5. Asake (Parimatch)

Ahmed Ololade - Asake - had a busy year so far: he won the Soundcity MVP Awards and the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, released three singles and collaborated on three more, and released four videos.

Last November, upon entering the Nigerian market, Parimatch chose him as their brand-new brand ambassador. “It is exciting to be associated with a global brand like Parimatch”, Asake said at the time. “I like their style, vision, appreciation and focus on creativity. I foresee us working excellently together”.

Final words

The rise of online gambling and betting in Nigeria has attracted the attention of popular influencers and artists. Some well-known Nigerian musicians, including Pasuma, Phyno, Davido, Tekno, and Asake, have been associated with various betting companies. Endorsements with famous faces and celebrities have become a common practice for betting brands seeking to tap into the massive fan bases of these artists. As the popularity of betting continues to grow in Nigeria and other African countries, we may see more collaborations between the entertainment industry and the gambling sector in the future.
