On the 27th of January, 2019, Davido had walked the talk, dancing and singing it even by headlining at the busiest music arena in the world and shutting it down by performing in front of a 20,000 strong crowd at London’s 02 Arena. Prior to that moment, he’d stated that he was going to do precisely that, saying, “My brother did, I’m about to do it too,” after Wizkid’s first headline show at the 02 in 2018. Every inch a Nigerian megastar and crowd-rouser, the 30BG president, Davido is set to take the 02 Arena again on the 5th of March 2022. In this list, we reminisce about his previous show at the iconic center and take a look at the musicians and friends he had share the stage with him in anticipation of his forthcoming show.
The show had kicked off with British DJ Tim Westwood and DMW’s own ECool, spinning bangers off the decks to keep the crowd pumped and entertained. Thereafter, members of Davido’s DMW as well as other artistes had performed in a bid to keep the crowd energised. Afterwards, British actor, Idris Elba had come on stage to introduce the man of the night who he rightly introduced as one of the biggest acts out of Africa. Davido had then made his appearance atop a suspended platform to a screaming crowd and promptly launched into a rendition of Aye with backup from The Compozers to elevate the ballad. Davido proceeded to perform for a long stretch and during the intermission, he had also had some friends take the stage.
Here are the musicians that performed at Davido’s 02 Arena show in 2019
The DMW rapper had been buzzing with a couple of well-received tracks in the late 2010s so it was only right he represented his DMW clan and held the show down for his boss. Dremo had performed his Davido-featured record, Kpa to the crowd at the 02 Arena.
2. May D
May D and Davido collaborated on the former’s Lowo Lowo but apparently the duo had a history before that as the singer made an appearance at the 02 to perform the remix of Chop My Money to a very excited crowd that had sang along word for word.
The London-based musician may be a rising star still but the OBO made space for him in his show’s itinerary and had the singer perform his then hit Jowabayi which features Naira Marley, Mystro and CDQ and had thrilled the Londoners and Lagosians in the crowd.
The DMW top-striker had been a favourite of the night, performing his hits songs like ECool’s 4You as well as Aje alongside Yonda and Davido himself at the 02 arena show. He then thrilled the crowd to his 2Baba collaboration, Amaka.
5. Victor AD
Victor AD couldn’t have had Davido on a track at a better time as the singer who’d premiered his single with Davido had joined him at the 02 Arena, taking the stage to entertain the crowd to a rendition of his moving hit record, Wetin We Gain.
CDQ’s Say Baba had gotten love in 2018 so the rapper had served the crowd with an energetic performance of the record.
The former DMW favourite had been present to help shut down the show with Davido, making an appearance towards the end following Davido’s interlude which heralded the second part of the show. Mayorkun had performed his hits like Che Che, Mama and Bobo.
Before Risky, Davido had been featured on dancehall heavyweight, Popcaan’s Dun Rich. So the singer had been present at the 02 Arena, performing bits of his Dun Rich with Davido before turning the atmosphere up to a performance of his Very Special hit.
The DMW singer and music writer had hit the stage with Peruzzi to perform Aje alongside Davido, lending his voice in the most harmonious way and confidently too to the 20,000 strong crowd.
Other acts that had performed at Davido’s debut at the 02 arena include American rapper, Russ who featured Davido on his All I Want record, Britain-based singer, Tomi Agape and Zlatan.
