5 Exciting things we know about Adekunle Gold's upcoming album 'Tequila Ever After'
The ace Afro-fusion singer recently hosted a listening party for his upcoming album, and it made a bold statement of how intentional he has become about his music.
Nigerian Afro-fusion singer, songwriter, and performer Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, is set to drop his fifth studio album this summer, and everything won't be the same after then.
The award-winning singer, who recently signed a management deal with American multinational music recording label Def Jam, hosted a private listening party for his upcoming album on Friday, July 7, 2023, where he gave friends, fans, and music enthusiasts a voyage of what the album Tequila Ever After is about.
Having dropped three songs already in 2023, including the smash tune Party No Dey Stop, featuring ace street-hop act Zinoleesky, the father of one is about to even blow more minds with his versatility, craftsmanship, and intentionality. Speaking about intentionality, the superstar got a guitarist he has always adored as a child on the album, fulfilling his childhood dream of making music with the iconic guitarist at all costs.
As we wait for Tequila Ever After, which is going to be one of the best projects you will listen to in 2023 (on a global scale), here are five things we know about the album:
Hot stories
Title inspiration
As the title indicates, Tequila Ever After, according to the singer, was largely inspired by the Mexican alcoholic drink. AG used to be a brown drink guy (whisky, cognac, etc.) until he tried Tequila and nothing remained the same. While taking guests on the voyage, Adekunle Gold numerous times mentioned taking Tequila before recording songs.
Another transition of the Adekunle Gold brand
Having released four studio albums since his emergence into the Nigerian music industry in 2016 with his alternative/folk single Sade which was originally a cover for One Direction's Story of My Life, Adekunle Gold has proven to be a chameleon whose artistic transition needs to be studied. Dwelling in the Highlife, folk, and alternative realms in his Gold album (2017), the superstar showed his versatility and capability in the Afro-pop scene with his sophomore album About 30 (2018), especially with the thrilling midtempo tune with songstress Dyo Down with You. Two years later, AG finally hacks the pop experiment with his Afro Pop Vol. 1 (2020) album and Catch Me If You Can (2022) to properly position himself as a popstar to be reckoned with. Interestingly, it wasn't only the music that changed; the branding (fashion, poise, aura, etc.) followed suit perfectly!
With the upcoming Tequila Ever After coming in a few weeks, AG has shown that he has elevated from being a pop star to a rockstar! Not only with the music but also the stage craftsmanship, a video that recently circulated the internet of him merging EDM into his Afrobeats tune with Davido High speaks volumes of what the man has evolved into.

World Cup song
Like all the music superstars, AG on the Tequila Ever After album has a song that is perfect to be used as a theme song for a global competition like the World Cup, the least of which is performing it on that stage. This said song, which was assisted in bringing to life with the help of two iconic multi-Grammy award-winning international superstars, has the right energy to become a World Cup song.
Two exciting young acts are on the album
AG believes in the craft of some young Nigerian artists and shows that he brought them on the album, and with no doubt they delivered. And as expected, AG was able to blend with both perfectly.
A single off the album might drop this Friday
Having shared a snippet of the said song online recently, the singer made it known on Monday, July 11, 2023, that the single will be released on Friday, July 14, 2023. The groovy Afro-fusion tune sees the award-winning singer-songwriter count his blessings and clearly spell out that he is indeed on a new level.
