Top artist reportedly leaves Mavin Records

Fresh reports have emerged stating a top artist under Mavin Records has left the music outfit, as indicated by his latest release.

Nigerian Afropop singer Crayon has set the internet buzzing with speculation after dropping his latest single "Baami", notably not under the MAVIN Records imprint that has been his home since 2019, but instead under a new outfit identified as "Olodum Ent."

The release has fuelled growing reports that the Ijo (Laba Laba) hitmaker may be parting ways with Don Jazzy's powerhouse label, which was acquired by Universal Music Group in a landmark deal in 2024.

Adding more fuel to the fire, Crayon, born Charles Chibueze Chukwu, was observed to have updated both his profile picture and social media bio around the time of the single's release, a move fans and industry watchers have interpreted as a deliberate signal of a fresh chapter in his career.

"Baami," produced by longtime collaborator Ozedikus, marks Crayon's first release of 2026 and arrives with no visible MAVIN branding — a stark departure from the label's typically unified rollout approach. The absence of any promotional support from the Supreme Mavin Dynasty's official channels has only deepened the intrigue.

MAVIN Records has built its reputation on discovering and nurturing raw talent, with Crayon himself having come through the label's famed academy system before officially signing to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of MAVIN, back in 2019. He went on to score major hits including "Ijo (Laba Laba)" and his critically acclaimed debut album Trench to Triumph (2023) under the label.

As of the time of publishing, neither Crayon nor MAVIN Records has officially commented on the reports of a departure. It remains unclear whether the "Olodum Ent" imprint represents a formal break from MAVIN, a new independent venture, or a transitional arrangement.

Fans of the Ojo-bred singer have taken to social media in droves, with many expressing support for the artist regardless of his label status, while others await an official statement from either party.
