Manchester City confirms Pep Guardiola's contract extension

Manchester City have confirmed the extension of Pep Guardiola contract for another two years which will see him stay at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.

The Premier League Champions confirmed the news on its official website on Thursday, November 21, 2024. According to the club, the decision to extend Pep Guardiola's contract at the club was easy following his impressive performance since he joined Manchester City from Bayern Munich in 2016, this new deal means that the Spaniard has spent more than 10 years with the Cityzens.

How many trophies have Guardiola won at Manchester City?

Guardiola has so far won 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League. He became the first manager in the Premier League title last season (2023/24 to win four top-flight titles in a row.

He also became the first team in Premier League history to manage 100 points in a single season (2017/18) and the first in English football to win all four domestic trophies (2018/19).

What did Pep Guardiola say about his contract extension?

Guardiola expressed his love and his desire to sign a new contract with Manchester City.

He said,

Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons. Thank you to everyone for continuing to trust and support me – The Owner, The Chairman Khaldoon, Ferran, Txiki, the players 6 of course the fans… everyone connected to Manchester City. It has always been an honour, a pleasure and a privilege to be here. I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much. Hopefully, now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the two-year deal does not have any break clause which means that no matter the situation, he will remain at Manchester City no matter the situation at the club.
