Who won the first gold medal for Africa at the Olympics 2024?
Tatjana Smith from South Africa claimed Africa's first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the 100m breaststroke. Smith made a remarkable comeback to win the race with a time of 1:05.28, edging out China’s Tang Qianting, who took silver, and Ireland’s Mona McSharry, who earned bronze. This victory was Smith’s first Olympic gold, following her close second-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
