Legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu reportedly dies at 72
According to news publication outfit The Vanguard, legendary singer, performer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has reportedly died at the age of 72.
Veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away.
How did Onyeka Onwenu die?
According to Vanguard, Onyeka Onwenu died Tuesday night at the age of 72 after performing at an event on Banana Island, Lagos.
Onwenu according to the Vanguard and Guardian had reportedly collapsed after her performance at the birthday celebration of Stella Okoli, the owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
She was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Victoria Island, as reported by The Guardian. Her family have however not released an official statement confirming the news.

Life and Career of Onyeka Onwenu
Onyeka Onwenu was born in 1952 in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria. She began her music career in the 1980s, releasing her debut album, “For the Love of You,” in 1981.
Over the years, she released numerous albums and singles, including the hit song “One Love.”
Onwenu also had a successful acting career, appearing in several Nollywood films and earning numerous awards for her contributions to music and film.
She is recognized as one of the pioneers of Nigerian music.In addition to her artistic achievements, Onwenu was active in politics.
She served as the Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and as the Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development.
She was honored with the National Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011 and has been acknowledged as one of Nigeria's most influential women by various organizations.
