Manchester United CEO leaves club after 16 years

Manchester United Football Club have confirmed that its CEO, Richard for the past 16 years will leave the club at the end of the year (2023).

Richard Arnold will hand over operational control of the club immediately and will be replaced as interim CEO by Patrick Stewart, who will also retain his role as general counsel. This decision was reportedly taken ahead of the expected arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in a couple of days.

The news was confirmed on the official website of Manchester United on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

"Richard Arnold has decided to step down as Chief Executive of Manchester United after 16 years with the club. Patrick Stewart will take over as interim CEO, in addition to his existing role as General Counsel, with Richard continuing to provide transitional support until the end of December. A search process will be carried out for a new permanent CEO."

Arnold thanked everyone who has supported him during his time at Manchester United since 2007, and wished everyone at the club the best in future .

"It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years. Through highs and lows, the constant has been the dedication of our employees and fans. I would like to thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment, and wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future.”

There are reports that Sir Jim will take immediate control of football matters at the club, alongside Ineos Sports colleagues including Sir Dave Brailsford.
