The Nigerian film and music industry continues to make strides across the globe. Nollywood has come a long way from village-type settings and has moved on to John Wick-esque blockbusters.
The Black Book is a Nigerian thriller set in Lagos and Kaduna in which a bereaved father does everything within his power to avenge his son, who was wrongfully murdered and accused of kidnapping. The film was released on September 22, 2023. Since its inception, Black Book has become the most-watched African film on Netflix. Furthermore, the Black Book took the number one spot on Netflix worldwide during the first week of its premiere.

The gritty film amassed 17 million views while ranking in the top 10 across 69 countries. Produced by Anakle Films, Kemi Lala Akindoju, and directed by Editi Effiong, the Black Book dives into the inner machinations of police brutality, corruption, and journalism. Richard Mofe Damijo led the entire ensemble with his iconic lines and terrific fighting skills.
