The French news outlet, RMC Sports, confirmed the news on its website on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021. According to the reports, the European Club Association wrote to FIFA asking for the postponement of the competition or probably leaving out the European players from the competition.

The European clubs seek that their players be left out because leaving their clubs will most likely affect their performance for the space of one month when the competition kick starts. The association are also concerned about the omicron virus that is currently infecting people around the world.

The bi-annual competition was to be played in 2021 but it was postponed to 2022 because of the outbreak of Covid-19 around the world.
