    The International Basketball Federation

FIBA, short for the International Basketball Federation (Fédération Internationale de Basketball), serves as the governing body for international basketball competitions, overseeing national organizations worldwide. Established in 1932 in Geneva, two years following the official recognition of basketball by the IOC, the association was originally named Fédération Internationale de basket-ball amateur. Prior to 1934, basketball fell under the jurisdiction of the International Amateur Handball Federation.
