As countries prepare for different competitions at the Olympics 2024, here is why the men's team for Nigeria will not be representing Africa at the event.

As the Super Falcons of Nigeria premier for the second leg of the final qualifiers to represent Africa at the Olympics 2024 which will take place in Paris, questions have been asked as to why the Super Eagles of Nigeria will not be playing at the competition as well.

The men's team for Nigeria will be missing out on the tournament for the second time since the last qualification for the Summer Olympics 2016 which was held in Brazil.

The absence of Nigeria in the men's football competition at the Olympics 2024 which will take place in Paris in July, is a result of the fact that the team failed to qualify for the competition after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Guinea in the qualifiers.

The men's team for Nigeria which is often represented by the U-23 squad failed to qualify for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations which also doubles up as the Olympics qualifiers. Nigeria in the two-legged fixture against Guinea failed to defeat the team after playing a goalless draw in the first leg and then suffering a 2-0 defeat in the second leg of the qualifiers.

The team which was led by Salisu Yusuf who also failed to secure qualification for Japan 2020 has continued to struggle since their last success at Brazil 2016 Olympics.

The Super Falcons will be looking to represent Nigeria in football at the Olympics as the final fixture of the Olympics qualifiers which is the second leg of their tie against South Africa will be played later this week. This would be huge for the women's division of Nigerian football following their lengthy absence from the competition in recent times.
