Here is why former Barcelona and Ajax star, Jordi Cruyff would not be renewing his contract as the sporting director at Camp Nou

Following an official confirmation by Barcelona regarding Jordi Cruyff's departure at the end of the season, reports have explained why the Dutch international will not be staying at Camp Nou.

According to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jordi Cruyff has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract as the sporting director at the club because of his desire to take on a new challenge.

It was also indicated that Barcelona is closing in on signing Deco, who facilitated Raphinha's move to Camp Nou, as the possible replacement for the Dutchman.

Although there is no official confirmation yet about the replacement for Jordi, reports indicate that Deco is the only name mentioned to fill in the position.

Barcelona's official statement read:

Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff will not be renewing his contract at the end of the current season due to his wish to embark on new professional endeavours.

He announced his decision this Tuesday morning to president Joan Laporta at an emotional meeting in which he explained that after two years in his position, he is leaving to face new challenges.

Cruyff has said that he is committed to assisting the club in its transition towards a new executive structure, and will be offering his full support with the closure of outstanding operations in the summer transfer market.

He also most sincerely thanked the president for his trust and for offering him the chance to come to FC Barcelona two years ago.
