As concerns are on the rise regarding players getting injured for Chelsea, Armando Broja has revealed why he was substituted off in the 65th minute of Chelsea's victory over Fulham on Monday, October 2, 2023.
The striker, who had been absent for over nine months for Chelsea, returned with a bang as he got a goal on his return to the club; however, concerns were raised as to why he was subbed off after playing just 65 minutes of the game. This led to Broja clearing the air himself as he revealed that this was just a precautionary move by the club following his return.
He said, ‘No injury, just a precaution, I’ve been out for a while so it was always hard for me to come back and play the full 90 minutes. I did get a bit leggy just before I came off, so it was just a precaution.’
Speaking on his goal for the club, he proceeded to add that it was a special feeling for him as a striker, and he is happy to mark his goalscoring feat for the club. He added, "It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been out for a while so it’s good to be back. I’m so happy for the team to win the game and carry on this momentum going forward. It’s an even better feeling for myself to get my first goal of the season on my first start, so I’m just thankful. It's amazing. I always dreamed as a little kid of playing in the Premier League and scoring as many goals as I can. It’s just an unbelievable feeling to be on my first start and score in a derby. There’s no better feeling than to get the three points and to score. As a striker, they all count, no matter how it goes in – a goal’s a goal. It’s important for strikers to score confidence-wise; it’s just a big drive going forward. But the most important thing is the three points. We were struggling a bit, but it’s two wins on the bounce now and hopefully we can continue that momentum going forward.’
