The build up is over and we have now finally had the chance to witness all twenty Premier League teams in action. The question in every fan's mind is one - Who can win the 2024/2025 Premier League season?

Despite its reputation of being the most competitive league in the world, when it comes to who can win the title, Manchester City have dominated the Premier League in recent seasons. The first team in English football history to win four successive top flight titles, once again the smart money is for them to reign supreme and win an unprecedented fifth title.

Although City start the season as the heavy outright favourites, there are others who will hope to spring the upset and in this article we will take a look at some of the major contenders for the 2024/2025 season.

Manchester City

Before we go and look at who might be able to finally steal the Premier League title away from the Etihad, it makes sense to start our list of champion contenders with the actual champions themselves.

Comfortable 2-0 winners away at Chelsea on the opening day, the nature of City’s win should spell danger for the rest of the league.

Without several key men, including Rodri, John Stones and Kyle Walker, City outclassed Chelsea in every aspect and looked a class apart throughout. Kevin De Bruyne still looks like one of the best players in the league and with Erling Haaland already off the mark, City know they have a match winner who can turn any game on its head.

Solid from front to back, Pep Guardiola spoke of his delight with his winning machine and proudly exclaimed You cannot imagine how privileged and fortunate I am to live these experiences with this incredible group of players. They are all friends, their families are all with them most of the time. It's unbelievable for me."

With rumours abound that this could be Guardiola’s last season in charge, you can bet that he will want to go out on a high. With a favourable run of fixtures to come, City could get off to the hottest of hot starts and could have the league on notice by the time the first international break comes around.

Without doubt, they are still the side to beat.

Arsenal

Arsenal Team Line up

If you don’t think that City will be able to win that fifth title, then the next obvious choice seems to be with Arsenal.

The runners up in each of the last two seasons, Mikel Arteta has done a fantastic job in rebuilding the Gunners into Premier League challengers and for the first time in over twenty years, they start the season looking to have a real shot of glory.

Only pipped to the title last season by two points, Arsenal have a formidable backline which has been boosted further by the return of Jurrien Timber and new signing of Ricardo Calafiori.

Although some may point to goals being a problem, in Martin Odegaard they have one of the league’s best creators and Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz have both opened up their accounts for the season in their 2-0 win over Wolves.

After his side's opening weekend win, Arteta was delighted with how his side had already clicked into gear. What I've seen is the willingness. Whether we're gonna do it or not, we'll have to show it every day in how we play and the results that we take away.

As they demonstrated last season, Arsenal won’t fall away and they and Arteta will be hopeful of going one place better this time around.

The other contenders

For most pundits they believe that Liverpool are the most likely to get in on the title action and they like City and Arsenal got their season off to the perfect start when beating Ipswich 2-0 on the opening weekend.

Although the Reds are yet to sign anyone, they still can boast one of the most talented squads in the league. Although Jurgen Klopp has left the club, Arne Slot has been able to pick up the ropes quickly and will be hopeful of his team maintaining their good start.

Last season Liverpool faltered down the run in and had to settle for third spot, they will hope for a different outcome altogether this season. Aston Villa were able to finish fourth last season and will be playing Champions League football this year as a reward.

Fans of soccer teams are so immersed in the games that sometimes they can't wait for a new match, constantly revisiting old plays and re-living those emotions. Having enjoyed a positive transfer window, Villa got the new campaign off to a flyer by beating West Ham 2-1 away

With Unai Emery getting a great tune out of his squad, Villa look the real deal and will hope to push the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City all the way this year. The other club that most believe could be considered as outsiders for the title is Man Utd.

Coming off their worst ever season last year when they finished eighth, Utd kicked off the new season with a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham.

Some sensible recruitment has seen Utd field a great squad and if they can avoid some of their injury demons from last year. Utd will hope to climb back up to the upper reaches of the table where they belong.

One thing is guaranteed, plenty of drama awaits

With City, Arsenal, Villa, Utd and Liverpool all winning on the opening day, this Premier League season has already kicked off with a bang.

Never before has the league looked to have so much quality and the battle for the league title could well go down to the wire.

No one can deny that it’s City who will start the season as the overwhelming favorites to win the league, but Arsenal and Liverpool will hope to give them something serious to think about.
