Toni Kroos confirms retirement from football


Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from both club and international football.

Toni Kroos in an official announcement on his social media platform confirmed that he would be retiring from both club and international football in 2024.

The statement which was shared on his social media platform today, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, confirmed Toni Kroos's reason for his retirement.

His statement read, “July 17th, 2014 - the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer - but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world."

Toni Kroos in his official statement confirmed that he would feature in the 2023/2024 Champions League final for Real Madrid as it would be his last club match for the Los Blancos side or any football club at all. The statement also read, "After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget that insolent successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one."

Is Toni Kroos going to the Euros 2024 with Germany?

Toni Kroos confirmed that he would also retire from international football after the Euro 2024 fixtures. This means Toni Kroos who had initially been selected would still keep his place in the German national side ahead of the Euro 2024.

He added, “At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship. As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own.
