The Manager of Chelsea Football Club, Thomas Tuchel, has confirmed that Ben Chilwell will be out for the rest of the season.
Tuchel was speaking in a press conference ahead of Chelsea's last Premier League game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion. According to the German, Chilwell, who was expected to return from injury in January 2022, will have to undergo surgery, which will rule him out for the rest of the year.
The 26-year-old suffered an injury in his anterior cruciate ligament in the UEFA Champions League 4-0 victory against Juventus in November. Chelsea were hoping the defender would avoid going for surgery but as it stands, that seems to be the player's best option.
According to reports from the club, Chelsea will look to sign Everton's left-back, Lucas Digne, who has fallen down the pecking order under Rafael Benitez.
