The head coach of Chelsea Football Club, Enzo Maresca has gone back on his words as it concerns the target for the club going into the remaining part of the current season ( 2024/25).

Enzo Maresca has received criticism from Chelsea supporters in recent weeks stating that no one at the club gave him a target this season. According to the Italian, he was appointed to steady the waters this season and then qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season (2025/26).

The recent form of results which has seen his team secure just three wins in 11 matches has called for serious concern among the supporters around the world. However, Maresca seems to have woken up from his slumber after the disappointing back-to-back defeat against Brighton in the FA Cup and the Premier League.

He changed his tone during the pre-match press conference ahead of the league game against Aston Villa at the Villa Park on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

He said,

"We now have 13 games to go. The target is to finish in the top four, to finish in the best way. Knowing the difficult moments we have now is probably one of the most important reasons why is because of the injury situation. Significant players are out. The team spirit in this moment has to be upset. We are upset because we are not happy with the results in this moment, We are all aware where we are in a club. we are not here to survive, we are here to win titles and fight for that."

Maresca will hope his players can grind out a victory against an Aston Villa team that have not won a match in five league games.
