Five talking points from the 2023/24 Premier League season

The 2023/24 Premier League season will be remembered by football fans around the world as the most entertaining in the history of the competition. We have decided to highlight the five talking points from the season.

The season kept everyone at the edge of their seats from the race to win the trophy to which team would finish in the European spots and teams who were fighting to remain in the Premier League.

(1) Manchester City:

Manchester City are the first team in English top-flight history to win the title in four consecutive seasons, having won the league in 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

The Cityzens went 35 matches unbeaten in all competitions (W29 D6), the longest run ever by a Premier League team. In English top-flight history, the only team with a longer unbeaten run is Nottingham Forest between March and November 1978 with 40 games.

Over the last four seasons, City have amassed 359 points – 49 more than anyone else. They have averaged 2.4 points per game, winning 73.7% of their Premier League matches and losing just 11.2%. They have scored 372 goals – 49 more than anyone else – at an average of 2.4 per game. They have conceded 125, which is 31 fewer than any other ever-present team.

(2) Pep Guardiola:

The Spaniard took his Premier League medals to six after he led Manchester City to win the title for the eighth time. He is the fourth manager to win as many as six English top-flight titles, along with Sir Alex Ferguson (13), George Ramsay (6) and Bob Paisley (6).

(3) Jurgen Klopp:

The story of this season will not be complete without talking about the German international. Klopp confirmed that he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season which was the end of his contract.

He led Liverpool to the club's highest-ever league points tally (99 in 2019-20), best-ever league-winning run (18 from October 2019 - February 2020), and most wins and goals in a single season in all competitions (46 wins, 147 goals in 2021-22.

(4) Arsenal

The supporters of the club can look in the mirror and feel proud of themselves after a remarkable run for the title that they gave Manchester City. This has been one of Arsenal’s greatest league campaigns having recorded 28 wins, they’ve set a club record for the most wins in a single Premier League season.

The first thing that Arsenal fans can take from this season is that there has been a progression from this season compared to the last season when they won just three of their last nine matches. They also conceded chances worth just 28.3 expected goals across 2023-24, the lowest mark of any team in Europe’s top five leagues, and also found the back of the net 91 times.

(5) Goals:

This was the season where a lot of goals were scored, a total number of 1,246 goals were scored which is the highest number of goals scored in the Premier League season.
