Super Falcons duo named in finalists for 2023 CAF women’s best player award


The body governing football in Africa, CAF have released the final shortlist for the 2023 women's best player the year award.

The body released the names of ten players on its official X account on Monday, November 27, 2023. Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie were named among the finalists out of the seven Nigerians nominated in the earlier 30-player list. Nnadozie was also named among the finalists for the women’s goalkeeper of the year.

Other players who failed to make the final list include Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale, Toni Payne and Christy Ucheibe.

The duo of Deborah Abiodun and Esther Ajakaye were also named among the finalists for the award for the best young player of the year award. However, Oshoala will be looking to win the award for a record six times.

The Super Falcons also made the shortlist of contenders for the women’s national team of the year. The award ceremony will be held on December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
