The new coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has suffered his second loss in charge of the side at the hands of Ecuador in the friendlies, which was played today, Friday, June 3, 2022, in the USA. The 1-0 loss to Ecuador comes just weeks after the team lost to Mexico by 2 goals to 1.

These results have raised concerns about the form of the side ahead of their AFCON qualifiers, with their first match taking place on Thursday, June 9, 2022, against Sierra Leone at 5 pm.

The NFF president Amaju Pinnick however, states that the team's objective had been accomplished even though they had lost the fixtures. According to Daily Post Nigeria, he said:

I am happy and I can tell you that we fulfilled our objectives of restoring the spirit of the Super Eagles following the failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Pinnick was quoted by Arise News as saying.

We lost both games against Mexico and Ecuador narrowly, but we were up for it and never finished on the back foot. The boys gave a good account of themselves in both games.

Given the number of first-team players that were not available, we have to praise the boys who showed up here and gave their all. They have given us confidence going into the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.”
