Sergio Aguero has opened up on his preferred player pick to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or Men's Player of the Year award.

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has shared his pick for the 2024 Ballon d'Or Men's Player of the Year award, opting for his former teammate Rodri over contenders like Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.

Aguero believes Rodri deserves the award after an outstanding season, and he’s not alone in this opinion, as Rodri is considered one of the top favourites for the accolade.

Other Manchester City players nominated for the award include Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Ruben Dias, alongside Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr. and Bellingham, whom Aguero notably left out.

The Ballon d’Or winner is expected to be announced on October 28 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

The shortlist for football's most prestigious individual prize was unveiled this week, featuring Rodri among other elite players like Bellingham and Vinicius.

Aguero has publicly backed his former City colleague, tweeting: “A perfect year, you deserve it. Come on Rodri,” in response to the club’s tweet about his nomination.

Rodri had a remarkable season, helping Manchester City secure their record fourth consecutive Premier League title, contributing nine goals and 13 assists in 50 matches.

He also played a pivotal role in Spain's Euro 2024 victory, where he was named the tournament’s best player. His impressive achievements position him as a strong candidate for the title of the world's best player.

Despite this, he faces stiff competition from Bellingham and Vinicius Jr., both of whom had standout seasons at Real Madrid, winning La Liga and Champions League titles.
