Mohamed Salah with his late winning penalty dashes the dreams of the Ivory Coast as Egypt said to the quarter-finals of the African Cup Of Nations 2021 following an edgy penalty shootout in the AFCON round of 16 fixture.

The round of 16 fixture at AFCON 2021 between Ivory Coast and Egypt took place on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, saw the Egyptian side led by Mohamed Salah beat an Ivorian side led by Serge Aurier on penalties after a 0-0 scoreline at the end of full time and extra time.

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly missed the penalty that would have kept his side in the tournament before Mohamed Salah converted the last spot-kick of the game to propel Egypt into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Ivory Coast had fought from the very first minute till the last minute creating chance after chance but saw their efforts being kept out by the goalkeeper, El Shenawy who managed to keep his side in the competition and straight to penalties.

The Egyptian side also had chances created but failed to covert as the Ivorian goalkeeper, Badra Sangare who managed to push Mohamed Salah's dipping attempt.

Ivory Coast had a good run in the tournament but would look forward to the next AFCON as they would be missing in the World Cup qualifiers' action.
