Manchester United supporters could see the return of one of its most prolific strikers in the past, Ruud van Nistelrooy return to Old Trafford to join Erik Ten Hag’s coaching crew.

Transfer news guru, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news of Ruud van Nistelrooy joining Erik Ten Hag ahead of the 2024/25 season on his official X account on Sunday, June 23, 2024. According to reports from the Italian, Manchester United have reached out to the Dutchman as they look to beef up the team's coaching crew.

United have been focused on getting some of the best players into the club this summer transfer window and also helping reshape Ten Hag’s backroom staff amidst speculation over the tenure of individuals like Benni McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag.

He said,

"Ruud van Nistelrooy has been approached to be part of Erik ten Hag’s new staff at Manchester United. Up to van Nistelrooy as he’s also strong candidate to be new Burnley manager to replace Kompany, decision next week. Changes could take place in Manchester United staff.”

The Dutchman has been tagged the favourite to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley after the former Manchester City player moved to Bayern Munich.

Van Nistelrooy has been out of work for the past twelve months after leaving PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2023, citing a lack of support and a unified approach between himself and the club’s top executives. He won the Dutch Cup as the manager of PSV.
